So I have been M.I.A. for awhile. But for a good reason. I just graduated from college with double degrees in Web Design and Graphic Design. With that being said, I
have to say a quick thank you for those who take the time out of their
busy schedule to stop by and be amused by my scribbling. I know how busy life can be and how time gets away from one. So if you do have a bit of time, please make
sure you stop back here to
This week's prompt is "WINE". With that being said, we'll
continue where our tale left off (click here to find the other parts)... and finally see what happens when a certain hunky lawman catches up with his prey...
Taking a deep breath, Thea clenched her purse in
her hand. The deep scarlet sundress she’d purchased on whim now seemed rather
dowdy compared to the flamboyant and somewhat brazen off the shoulder peasant
blouses and long flowing multi-hued skirts of other guests. Watching an ebony
beauty walk by in such a get up had Thea heading back up to her room to change.
What had she been thinking?
“Damn, Thea, you look marvelous.”
Adam’s voice startled her out of her thoughts.
Smiling up at him, she took a deep breath. “Thanks. You don’t clean up too bad
yourself.” She took in his crème colored slacks and midnight blue short sleeved
shirt.
“These old duds? They are comfortable and
shouldn’t get me tossed out on my ear.” Offering her his arm, he guided them to
the entryway of the dining-room. “I don’t know about you but I’m famished.
Keith ran me ragged after you left. I’d forgotten how much energy boys have.”
“Yes, I know. Just imagine trying to contain that
kind of energy in a library setting.”
“You don’t look like a librarian I’ve ever seen.”
She laughed as she sat down in the proffered
chair. “I assure you, I am a librarian. I’ve worked in the library in my
hometown since I was a young girl. Last fall when Miss Altopher retired, I took
over her spot as Head Librarian.”
He nodded before he sat down across from her.
“Well if my head librarian had looked like you, I’d have definitely spent more
time in the library.”
She settled in and watched as he ordered their meal in perfect Portuguese. “Dare I ask what you just ordered for me?” she asked after the waiter had left.
She settled in and watched as he ordered their meal in perfect Portuguese. “Dare I ask what you just ordered for me?” she asked after the waiter had left.
“Live dangerously, Thea. I won’t steer you wrong.
So you’re a librarian. Tell me a little more about yourself. If I had to guess
I would say you’re from the Midwest?”
She fidgeted. “Iowa to be exact and there’s not
much to tell. I decided I needed to get away for awhile and took a vacation.”
Deciding a change in the conversation, she took a sip of the wine the waiter
had poured for her. “So other than running your clinic what else do you do down
here in paradise?”
Leaning back he smiled at her. “Someone’s trying
to avoid talking about herself, but I’ll play along. When I’m not at the clinic I surf and laze
around on the beach.”
Her expression brightened at the thought of
seeing him riding a wave. “You surf? Could you teach me?”
He leaned back in his chair and stared at her,
his expression thoughtful. “You promise to not take advantage of me in the
process?”
She flushed. “Well I can’t promise to keep my
hands to myself but I think your virtue is safe.”
“Hmm, I think I can take the risk. What time do
you want me to pick you up tomorrow?”
Licking her lips, she couldn’t believe she was going to do this. For a moment she wondered what Zeke would say
about her going off with a strange man. With determination she pushed the
thought away. She was here to experience life for once and not worry about what
Mr. St.John thought.
“How about nine?” Nibbling on her lip she
wondered if was too early for him.
“No, it’s perfect. We’ll have a bit of a drive. I
don’t surf at Arpoador . It’s much too crowded. We’ll go up to Barra da Tijuca.
It’s where I normally surf at and it’s usually just locals. Not to mention with
Carnaval starting tomorrow night we’ll have the surf pretty much to ourselves.”
A bit of unease filled her but she pushed it
away. “Ah…okay.”
“No it’s not okay!” The deep growl behind her had
her freezing. Closing her eyes, she prayed for patience as a pair of warm hands
landed on her bare shoulders. She had to be hearing things. Hell, she had to be
feeling things. There was no way Ezekiel St.John had followed her to Rio, but
the speculation on Adam’s face as he took in the man behind her had her ready
to crawl into a hole.

You were building up a nice set up between Thea and Adam. The ending surprised me. Can't wait to see how she digs herself out of this hole.
