Review: Wet Dream by Jenna Jacob

WET DREAM
Brea Gates has spent a lifetime surrendering her paycheck, her body, and her ever-lovin’ soul to one worthless man after another. She’s determined to steel her spine and give up romance for good. No one possessing a Y chromosome for her. No way. No how. No men!

When she visits friends in tiny Haven, Texas, she finds blessed peace—for five minutes. One glimpse of rough-hewn cowboy Sawyer Grayson blows Brea’s man-ban to hell, making her ache to get her hands on what he’s packing in those tight blue jeans.
After a failed marriage, Sawyer swapped “Mrs. Right” for “Ms. Right Now.” Though he refuses to risk forever with a gold digging she-devil again, he’s all about a cold beer and a willing woman...or three. But he knows instantly that Brea is different. She's the kind of wet dream who tempts him all night. And she just might be the only one who could lure him back to the altar…

Review:
So lets be honest here, I've met the lovely Ms. Jacob at several signings but until I picked up Wet Dream hadn't had the chance to read her work. (Which is kinda ironic, since we write in the same genre.)

Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed by the Sawyer and Brea's story. The chemistry between them was white hot and I loved the character development that Ms. Jacob  put into both of their characters. Neither character was perfect and that was great.  I love realistic people who screw up, make mistakes, then fight for their happily ever after.

I can say that I'm hooked and look forward to sink my teeth into the next book, Beefcake.

Review: Fury by Fire by Coreen Callahan

Yay! It's Friday and guess what that means? Yep, that's right, it's time for Dakota to review another book that's been languishing on her bookshelf. (I don't suppose you've noticed that I'm reading quite of few older books, but that's exactly what I'm doing.  Dusting off books that have been languishing on my virtual shelf - you know those books that hey, the blurb sounds awesome - I think I'll pick it up and give it a shot.)   Maybe I should call this Retro Reviews. Because that's exactly what I'm doing. And this week's review is for a series that started nearly three years ago, in 2013.

Title : Fury by Fire (Dragonfury Series #1)

Author: Coreene Callahan
Length: 425pages
Buy Link: Amazon

BLURB:

A clandestine race of half-dragon, half-humans known as dragon-shifters lives among us. Bastian, leader of the Nightfury dragon clan, is sworn to protect humankind at all costs. For him, honor and duty always come first. When the clan dictates he take a human mate to sire a son, he falters, aware that for a human to birth a dragon-shifter she must die. Myst, the woman given into his care, is the most extraordinary he’s ever met, and though he can’t bear the thought of harming her he is bound by duty.

Myst loves her life in the human world, but Bastian has captured her heart in an instant of electric connection. But Bastian and his warriors are in the middle of a deadly battle with the Razorback dragon-shifters, intent on killing every Nightfury clan member—and the humans they protect—the fate of their world and ours hangs in the balance.

An extraordinary blend of action, fantasy, and steamy romance, Fury of Fire brings to life a dangerous new world intertwined with the survival of humanity, all while exploring the meaning of honor and the nature of true love.

Review
Ms. Callahan was a new to me author that a fellow reader recommended.  She was like "D" you gotta check this out. She writes some kick-ass dragon shifter books.  Believe me, I wasn't disappointed either.  I love the attention to detail that this author puts in her world building - the blending of the old with the new, (As in Bastien and his commerades all have this magical ability, but they live in current times.) In fact, one of his fellow dragons had this reader chuckling at his movie fetish.  Name the baby Ironhide indeed.  I can't even say that without giggling.

Not only is the chemistry between Myst and Bastien sizzling, the connection between them is intense. I truly enjoyed the concepts of the mates supplying the dragons with much needed energy as well as the heartache of what is bound to happen if they do.  Such a pickle these men/dragons find themselves in. They long for love-for a mate, then they end up killing their loved ones via childbirth.  It just sucks - and it's that raw torment that jumps from the page as Bastien, the leader of the Nightfury's battles with not only his emotions but Myst's humanness as well.  It made for a truly enjoyable read.   Which is why I went out and bought the rest of the series...so don't be surprised if you find the next couple books popping up on Retro Reviews in the near future.  Ms. Callahan's world building skills are just that good.

Which is why she gets a Four and a Half Kinky Cuffs!

Review: Going Solo by Dani Wade

So when I'm not writing I try to squeeze in a bit of reading - and this week I picked up fellow NGWN author, Dani Wade's Goin'Out Solo.  Below is a my review of her book (and FYI - I bought this book - so in noway am I being compensated for my review - it was something I wanted to do!) With that being said, onto the review.

Nate knows he’s breaking the rules by taking Sara to bed, but he’s desperate for the peace he can only find through her touch. With death on the horizon, can forbidden love bring one man back from the brink of an uncertain future?

Review

So what should I tell you about this book?  Well, for one keep an hanky ready.  I shed a few tears at the climax of the story.  (And no don't ask me to give away Dani's thunder. If you want to know what happens pick up the book...lol.)

One thing I will reveal however, is that author did a wonderful job dealing with a sensitive subject, creating characters that lived, breathed and have gone thru hell and back to get where they are.  Both Nate and Sara have their own set of issues, but I still fell in love with them and was rooting for them to make it.

Another thing I liked as I read was the fact that Dani didn't do the 'quick fix' that I see some authors do. Both Nate and Sara had to grow to make it work. Which I personally think is the cornerstone of any relationship.

I am ashamed to say, this is the first book in this series I've read, but rest assured I'll be going back to find the earlier books. I need to know their stories too - Dani created a world that I plan on visiting again!   Which is why I'm giving Goin' Out Solo, a Four & Half Naughty Cuffs :)

Blurb: On the island where they first met, two lovers from opposite sides of the tracks are reunited. Now jaded and broken, Alex and Matt still can’t deny their sizzling connection or the memories of one perfect, uninhibited year together.

At twenty-two, Matt Tarrington is rich, good-looking and destined to be powerful, but behind that confident exterior lurks a man who resents the life his family thrust upon him. Wanting an escape, Matt heads to Mirabella Island off the coast of Florida for a year of relaxation and a few wild nights with vacationing party-girls.

Matt never expected to find real passion in the arms of Alex Hunter, a handsome, laid-back local. Alex is gay, but closeted. Knowing Matt should be off limits, Alex finds the deeply-in-denial rich boy too tempting to ignore. Especially when a bet has them working together, fighting the heat in the rundown, beachside cafe where Alex sweats for every dollar.

Their love felt inevitable until youth left them vulnerable to hatred and greed. After six years of hating the lies they live to make others happy, they will have to risk it all for the second chance they both desperately need.

Excerpt:
“So if we hook up”—Alex walked up to the king-size bed in the master bedroom—“do I get mistress benefits?”

“What are mistress benefits?”

“A car, a bank account, shopping sprees, and trips to the French Rivera.” Alex fell back against the neatly made bed, leaning on his elbows as he put himself on display. “It’s a small price to pay for all the forbidden things I can give you that a wife can’t.”

Matt stood there staring at Alex, spread out on the bed, that black shirt showing off his beautiful body, those tight jeans clinging to all the right places. More frustrated as the seconds ticked by, Matt was almost inclined to agree.

Instead he smiled back. “You think I can’t find some other guy free of charge to give me what you’re offering?”

“That’s the truth.” Alex got up and looked Matt over for one hot moment. “Baby, they’d be paying you.”

The compliment caught him off guard, as did the endearment. Matt’s cheeks heated to the point he turned away to save his dignity. He wasn’t sure why Alex could do that to him when he’d never been shy or reserved when it came to sex.

This whole situation was throwing him off, and half of him couldn’t understand why he’d invited Alex over to begin with when he’d been resolved to his straight, conservative upper-crust lifestyle that would probably end with him marrying a woman like his mother and hating life like any good Tarrington man should. The other half of him—the bottom half—had been hard since Alex arrived.

“You blush too easily, Matty.” Alex went back to exploring the house. “You gotta stop that.”

Matt winced, hating that he was being so obvious with his nervousness, still he asked, “Why?”

“’Cause it gets my dick hard,” Alex said from the master bathroom and then added, “Very nice. Italian marble. Dual showerheads. This shower has hot sex written all over it.”

Matt needed more to drink—lots more.

Author Bio:

A freckle faced, redhead born and raised in Hawaii, Kele Moon has always been a bit of a sore thumb and has come to enjoy the novelty of it. She thrives off pushing the envelope and finding ways to make the impossible work in her story telling. With a mad passion for romance, she adores the art of falling in love. The only rules she believes in is that, in love there are no rules and true love knows no bounds.

So obsessed is she with the beauty of romance and the novelty of creating it she’s lost in her own wonder world most of the time. Thankfully she married her own dark, handsome, brooding hero who had infinite patience for her airy ways and attempts to keep her grounded. When she leaves her keys in the refrigerator or her cell phone in the oven he’s usually there to save her from herself. The two of them now reside in Florida with their three beautiful children who make their lives both fun and challenging in equal parts–They wouldn’t have it any other way.

Dakota's Review:  What to say about this book?  Well first of all make sure you not only have your significant other nearby, but also make sure you have a box of tissue on the bedside table.  This book not only steams with the chemistry between Matty and Alex, it will also tug on your heartstrings - HARD!  Ms. Moon, not only crafted an emotional masterpiece, I swear it nearly set my reader on fire - twice.  I loved the amount of emotional depth she put into both characters. I found myself rooting for Matty to figure out a way to stay with Alex when they had so many obstacles from their economical classes to their sexual orientation. This is the first book I've read by Ms. Moon but I can guarantee I'll be reading more from her in the future.  It takes a talented author to create a book like Starfish and Coffee, and I give the author kudos for accomplishing it.

And don't forget to comment to enter to wind a $25 gift certificate from Kele!
